Grogan's Mill Village Center Keeps Filling In, One Saturday Market at a Time

Brick home entrance with an arched opening, oak door, white-trimmed windows and a shaded fern bed.

"The Grogan's Mill Village Center was the original village center, and people who grew up here have so many ... generational memories of this place," Jim Carman, Howard Hughes' Houston region president, said at the June 2025 ribbon-cutting, as Community Impact reported.

In the sixteen months since, the center at 7 Switchbud Place has added one storefront at a time, and almost every new tenant is a business people use weekly or monthly. They sit beside the two things that already drew people to this corner every week, the Saturday farmers market and the library. The headline arrivals haven't opened yet, and for now that's what holds the center together.

A 50-year-old center, rebuilt while the shops stayed open

Howard Hughes bought the in-line retail and grocery-anchor part of Grogan's Mill Village Center in 2023, as Community Impact reported at the time. What followed was a $16.5 million project, done in partnership with Montgomery County, to redesign and rebuild the center. The library and community center was part of the same plan.

The retail work took about 10 months. It covered foundation repairs, structural improvements and new patio space across the 31,363-square-foot retail portion. Tenants with leases kept operating the whole time. Ome Cali Cafe and Safeway Driving School both stayed open through construction.

The Township then held a free grand-reopening on Saturday, September 20, 2025. It included tours of the new Kevin Brady Library and Community Center, activities, entertainment and the farmers market. So the center came back with its regulars still in place and a Saturday schedule already running. The new tenants have been filling in around both.

Who moved in, in order

Read in date order, the openings since the rebuild look like a list of weekday errands, not a list of destinations:

  • Plush Nail Bar opened December 17, 2025, at 2230 Buckthorne Place, Ste. 101.
  • Suna Studio, a fitness studio, had its soft opening January 26, 2026, in Ste. 170 at the same address.
  • Cooking Girl started serving Sichuan food on August 10, 2026, at 7 Switchbud Place, Ste. 194. Community Impact's opening report lists Zang's lamb chop, chicken love taro and pyramid wings among its dishes.
  • Yonutz, a doughnut and ice cream shop, had its grand opening September 14, 2026, at 2230 Buckthorne Place, Ste. 150.
  • Hourani's Barbershop opened October 1, 2026, at 7 Switchbud Place, Ste. 191.

That's five openings over about ten months, three of them since August. Nail appointments, workout classes, haircuts, a weeknight takeout spot and a doughnut stop are things people come back for regularly. Suna, Plush Nail Bar and Yonutz were all named at the June 2025 ribbon-cutting, so the lineup that has opened is close to the one Howard Hughes announced that day.

The market came first

All of these storefronts sit next to something that ran long before the rebuild. The Woodlands Farmers Market is a weekly event sponsored by the Grogan's Mill Village Association, held every Saturday morning, rain or shine, according to The Woodlands Township's market page.

October brings a schedule change. The market runs 9 a.m. to noon from July through September and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from October through June. That means October 3 was the first Saturday this fall with the extra hour. The market lists more than 60 vendors and requires agricultural and artisan sellers to grow or make what they sell. A newsletter goes out every Friday saying which vendors will be there the next morning.

The Kevin Brady Library next door gives the center a weekday draw too. The library's event calendar lists orientations for its 3D printer and laser engraver, a beginner-friendly Mah Jongg group, a Culinary Book Club for adults 19 and up, and a mystery book club that requires registration at 936-522-2697. October also includes a Teen Manga Meet Up on Tuesday the 13th from 5 to 7 p.m. and Teen Paint Your Own Haunted House on Tuesday the 20th from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

With a market on Saturday mornings and programs during the week, the center already had foot traffic before the new shops arrived. The newcomers have been leasing space next to it.

How October 24 lines up

One Saturday this month shows how the pieces fit together. Here's the schedule for October 24, using the posted hours:

  1. 9 a.m. The farmers market opens at 7 Switchbud Place and runs until 1 p.m.
  2. 11 a.m. Pumpkin Patch Crafts starts at the Kevin Brady Library and runs until 1 p.m., so it ends with the market.
  3. Late morning onward. Yonutz, Cooking Girl and the other storefronts are a few steps from the market tables.

Two of the center's biggest draws overlap for two hours, and the new storefronts sit between them. The library calendar also lists a mini-wreath craft later in the season, for anyone planning ahead to December.

The bigger names haven't opened yet

The most anticipated additions are still on the way, and their timelines are worth keeping straight.

Uni Sushi is coming back. Its Market Street location closed in January 2026. On June 29, Howard Hughes Communities announced that owners Angel Barragan and Rosie Izaguirre would reopen at 7 Switchbud Place, Ste. 190, Community Impact reported. The planned restaurant is about 3,500 square feet with a covered patio and indoor seating for roughly 230 to 250 guests. The opening is set for 2027, not this fall. Ste. 190 is next to Hourani's in Ste. 191 and Cooking Girl in Ste. 194, so the newest stretch of the center will keep getting busier.

Turquoise Wine Bar is headed to 2230 Buckthorne Place. A May 2026 Community Impact story projected a late-September or early-October opening. As of mid-October, the bar's Woodlands page still says "coming soon."

Daniel & Co. Fine Jewelry & Watches was under construction at 2260 Buckthorne Place in February 2026, with no opening date set. Its contact page still lists the Woodlands location as coming soon and asks visitors to reach out for opening updates.

A wine bar, a jeweler and a 230-seat sushi restaurant would bring evening and occasion visits to a center that now runs mostly on mornings and errands. Until those open, the market, the library and the newer everyday tenants are what keep it busy.

A bridge replacement on the nature trail

The village center isn't the only thing in Grogan's Mill getting work. In April 2026 The Woodlands Township put out a bid to replace a bridge on the Grogan's Mill Nature Trail, on the pathway north of Sawdust Road and west of Golden Road. Bids closed June 3. Draft minutes from the board's June 25, 2026 meeting record a $470,370 contract awarded to Mc2 Civil, LLC, for contract C-2026-0389. The minutes call it the "Grogan's Point" Nature Trail Bridge, but the contract number matches the bid. The award and bid records don't say when work will be finished, so check the Township's pathway updates before planning a walk across it.
